Honey CutHer When my family and I moved to Saint John in 2010, I knew I would be in need of a way to force myself to get out of the house and meet new people. My friend had mentioned Derby to me on a few occasions, so I decided to go check it out. I saw a game, went to an open skate that next fall, and I never really looked back.

Derby has really given me so much more than just a great group of diverse people. It has made me more outgoing, independent, healthier, and stronger in so many ways than I have ever been. It has also given me the opportunity to be a better role model for my kids, which I both love and appreciate. Most importantly though, I feel that as we are a community, we are more of a family. We are there to support each other, and stand with each other when need be, and it really is a wonderful thing. I think that is what I love most about it, that sense of family.

My most favorite moment up to this point is really anytime I can walk away feeling proud of myself, whether it be from pushing myself a little harder, getting better at a specific skill, or landing a beauty of a hit. Every little accomplishment adds up, and when I look back at where I started from, although I may not be the best, and I may still have a long way to go, but I have come a long way, and that makes me a bit giddy.
